Notes || Our Life

Monday, September 14th, 2009

One day we dream about the time Beau will be able to work in his pajamas at home along with me, but for now he has another full time gig. For now… From time to time, this other job takes him out of town and leaves me and the pups alone to watching the Notebook for the thousandth time.

But when he is gone, I find little notes strategically placed throughout the house for me.

I actually found this during dinner time. Niki was over late editing with me and we had contemplated going out and grabbing something, but decided a bowl of Life would do the job just as well. That little white piece of paper made
my night.

Next morning, while enjoying yet another bowl of Life, I found a second in my vitamin jar.

Another when I went to brush my hair.

And again when I went into my gym bag.

I know that “they” say distance makes the heart grow fonder and all…but the black ink on those notes make my heart want him home even more.

addiction wednesday || our life

Welcome to another installation of Addiction Wednesday.

Have you heard of Rita’s Italian Ice ? If you haven’t I suggest you click on the link and find the nearest location and CHECK them out!! YUMMY. Seriously, with the temperature reaching near 180 degrees here in Florida, who wouldn’t want to have some nice ice? This past weekend when we visited they had –wait for it–Swedish Fish as a flavor. I about jumped for joy, actually I kind of did. I didn’t think they could get any better. Sadly, come to find out, this was the last weekend that they were serving it. Beau and I contemplated buying a couple of gallons–hey this isn’t called Addiction Wednesday for nothing!–but realistically we couldn’t fit that much into our freezer. But we took pictures of the fanastic memory of the Swedish Fish flavored Italian ice with custard.

Hi we are Brandy and Beau.

…Hi Brandy and Beau.

We are addicted to Word Whomp.

wordwhomp.jpg

My lovely sister in law introduced us to this drug..um I mean game.  “The object of Word Whomp™ is to make as many words as you can from the six letters in the middle of the screen. Words must have at least 3 letters, and they can’t be proper names, abbreviations, or contractions.”

We can play this game for hours. It is our downtime. Time for us to be together and spell. We are not particularly good at it. The  little weasels or whatever they are sit there, each holding a letter, and blink their beady little eyes at us wondering if we are going to enter a word. AND THEN when we enter an incorrect word, they shake their heads at us. Little vermin! It does makes us feel really smart when we win a round! Celebrating by a “Team B-squared” high-five.

So we figured we would share our addiction with you, the first step to curing our addiction is to speak about it. I hope no one else gets hooked. : )

good morning, morning dove || our life

Friday, August 21st, 2009

This morning I let Dipity and Oona, two of my pups, outside in the backyard to play for a little bit. I went back to the office to multitask, watching Dating in the Dark and editing a session. I heard Dipity barking, which is kinda unusal, unless she is barking at a squirrel teasing her on a nearby tree. So I peeked out the office window to peer into the backyard to see what the commotion was all about. Instead of finding her telling her piece of mind to one of the many pesky squirrels, she was barking at the ground. Hmm. So I call her in afraid that it might be a snake. I wonder out in my normal working attire of pjs to inspect the situation. And instead of a deadly grass snake, I found these two adorable little guys:

MorningDoves2.jpg

I think this might be their nest:

Mamma and Daddy dove keeping a close watch:

MorningDoves4.jpg

So then I think, crap, what should I do? Are they hurt? So I decided to ask Mr Google.  The research that I found states, “Baby birds are often seen fully feathered but trying to fly, with the parents nearby. These are fledglings. If they look bright and alert, it is best to leave them alone. If possible, keep cats and dogs away from the area for a few days. During this the birds will learn to fly. The parents will continue to care for them even though they are on the ground. ” I don’t think the pups are going to be too happy about not being able to play in the backyard.

So as I type this the parents are on the ground with the babies tending to them. I sure hope they fly away, but for now it’s some nice entertainment.

Aruba, Jamaica, ooo I wanna take to Bermuda, BAHAMAS!!!

Yes, we got to vacation in the Bahamas for the 4th of July weekend! It was a blast. The water was soooo crystal blue, it didn’t matter where we were in the water you could see straight to the bottom. Here is a peak of maybe 1/200th of what we did while we were there.

On the plane to the island, with Niki and her bf Marcus.

We stayed on Niki’s dad’s sailboat, the Cocomo, while there. Here are some details of her.

Our Life || Happy Anniversary to US

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

In the midst of all our craziness, our marriage turned 1 year old on Sunday.

Beau surprised me with a wonderful weekend getaway (that I wished could have lasted forever) and even brought our wedding cake along. He thinks of everything. During the wedding day, the only piece of cake that we had was the one that we fed each other. So I was kinda looking forward to sitting down and actually being able to “taste” our yummy cake. We had three different layers and we saved our favorite for the top, red velvet with cream cheese filling. Well folks…let me tell you how NOT to store your cake if you would like to follow this crazy tradition of eating your cake a year later and actually enjoying it.

cake.jpg

In a Ziploc bag, shoved into the back of your freezer, is NOT the way of sealing a piece of moist deliciousness. Not horrible, but not that fabulous. I tried to find a site that seemed to have the answer on how to properly freeze it, but I really didn’t find anything that I thought sounded more secure than our Ziploc route. So I went with word of mouth instead. Niki, our ever fabulous friend and assistant, froze her cake and then using a Food Saver vacuumed sealed it. She said that it was still wonderful a year later. I hope that helps, I really think someone should just create a tradition to eat it the night of the wedding.

I cannot believe how fast the year went by. My heart is so full with love I think it may burst any day now. I got to marry my soul mate and my best friend. And not to mention I think he is the most gorgeous person I have ever laid my eyes on.

I am a very lucky girl.

Let’s Play Catch Up

Sorry that it has been awhile since the last update. I wish that I could say that it was from procrastination, but unfortunately this was the reason:

blogCar.jpg

Sorry about the quality, these are from Beau’s cell phone. In my shock I didn’t even think to pull out my camera.

Upon traveling back from my brother’s beautiful destination wedding in Santa Rosa Beach, we had a car accident. It had been raining pretty hard on the way back home (a long haul-6 hour drive). Around 4:30 in the afternoon, the time of the accident, it was just sprinkling. While traveling over a bridge, that was more  concrete than asphalt, the car hydroplaned and we hit the guard rail 3 times in the process of doing a 360 in the middle of I-10, before coming to a stop in the emergency lane. It was so surreal. I still can’t believe that we survived. I remember seeing headlights coming at us and thinking any minute now a car is going to hit us, but on top of that thinking we are going to be OK. I could list all the “fortunates” …we were fortunate it was a Sunday so there wasn’t a lot of traffic, we were fortunate for the guardrails that stopped us from plummeting into the trees, we were fortunate that there were no cars traveling too close behind or in front of us, we were fortunate that we didn’t hit anyone else, we were fortunate that our car held up to the impact, this list could go on for days and believe me it has in my head. But we were most fortunate that we were all able to exit the car unharmed. That is the short of it. The long of it, that the accident has consumed all of my extra energy and in turn I have neglected some parts of my life…blogging. But I am back and I have a lot to blog about. And here is a sneak peak of what’s to come:

Our Life || Houston Shaninagans

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I am late on my blogging again. BUT I have an excuse. I am the MOH in my brother’s upcoming wedding! And I just spent a whirlwind week in good ole Houston attending Caroline (my future SIL, but I already consider her a sister anyways) bridal shower and bacherolette party. While we were there we shot her bridal portraits, which I do have to say were absolutely beautiful. She was a stunning model…unfortuantely everyone is going to have to wait until they get married in May to see them. Sorry about such a long span to torture you without the goregous photos, but I can’t risk my brother sneaking on here to see them. Plus, I dont want to ruin the surprise for everyone else that will be at the wedding.

our life || help the animals

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

As some of you may know all three of our little girls were adopted, with the exception of dipity. I found her on the side of the road. I passed her in my car and had to do a double take on if she was actually a dog or a very large rat. I turned my car back around to pick her up and it was the best u-turn of my life.

dipity-2.jpg

dipity-1.jpg

And now she sticks her tongue out at me, even after all we have been through. How can you just not love this face?

dipity-3.jpg

I write this in hopes to capture your attention for this great opportunity. I came across this wonderful woman and musician, Neko Case, from the blog of uber-talented Erica Matyas of photohound.biz. From now until February 3rd Neko and her record label ANTI- are donating $5 to Best Friends Animal Society to anyone who downloads and posts the song on their blog. The song is from her first single “People Got A Lotta Nerve”, from her upcoming album Middle Cyclone (out March 3).

Have a listen: People Got A Lotta Nerve

If you would like to post this on your blog and help contribute to this wonderful cause, learn how here.
